Defenders of Wildlife is a national, non-profit membership organization dedicated to the protection of imperiled wildlife across North America.

Location & Type: Washington, DC (Hybrid – Onsite/Remote)

Responsibilities and Duties

Defenders’ marketing intern will work with the fundraising and advocacy teams to ideate and execute creative approaches to compel donor and prospect action on behalf of imperiled wildlife. This will include working on initiatives across multiple channels including email, direct mail, mobile, website and social media to engage donors and prospects to educate them about wildlife and habitat conversation.

The intern will work with each of the Marketing team leads, as well as our partners in Communications, to support campaign brainstorming, develop creative across a variety of print, video and digital media, and support data and analytic projects. The intern will also be a part of Defenders’ comprehensive summer intern program featuring 10 student interns embedded across the organization to support our mission to protect and restore imperiled wildlife and habitat.

Candidates must have strong writing and verbal communication skills. Preference will be given to creative thinkers with a passion for educating and activating people to defend our wild world.

Education: Current undergraduate student at an accredited 2 or 4-year institution.
Experience: Commitment to or demonstrated interest in wildlife conservation, public interest environmental work; commitment to or demonstrated interest in broadening the inclusion of multicultural and/or marginalized communities in the conservation movement.
Preferred Majors: Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Psychology
College Level: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior

Benefits

• Defenders offers a hybrid work schedule with two days a week in D.C. and three days remote. Interns are provided with the equipment needed to perform their work. Cross-collaboration with other interns and staff at Defenders of Wildlife is strongly encouraged. To facilitate that, interns are provided with opportunities to see our work first-hand, as well as various lunches, virtual trainings/mentoring sessions and adhoc conversation opportunities in our onsite wellness lounge (coffee bar).
