Student Internship Program

Elevating Diversity & Guiding Employment

The Nonprofit Alliance Foundation’s Leading EDGE Internship Program aims to elevate the visibility of college-age job candidates, including those in underrepresented and first-generation student populations, within the employer job market; and enable first job placements that can lead to a career path in the social good sector, including roles in marketing & fundraising, finance, policy, data management & analysis, and other fields.

2022: Program Design & Development

College students preparing to enter the workforce today are exceptionally purpose-driven. Graduates spanning a breadth of majors are embarking on a quest to make a positive impact on the social good in their everyday professional roles. Many already know what TNPA members have learned during the course of professional journeys: the opportunity for careers in social good is far broader than direct programmatic roles.

With input we received at our 2019 Leadership Summit, we are building an internship program in partnership with nonprofit organizations, firms that work with nonprofits, and colleges and universities. Called Leading EDGE, this program strives to:

  • elevate the visibility of college-age job candidates, and particularly underrepresented student populations, within the employer job market; and
  • enable firsts job placements that can lead to a career path in the social good sector, including roles in marketing & fundraising, finance, policy, data management & analysis, and other operations fields.

Leading EDGE, in development in 2022, will provide students with practical, paid experience and an early-career network of sector professionals to support their post-graduation entry into the workforce. Participating employers will benefit through their access to bright and talented soon-to-be college graduates, many of whom come from racially underrepresented or other marginalized populations that are too often missing from traditional candidate search efforts. Building a bridge between students and the nonprofit sector’s leading organizations and corporations will continue to close the knowledge gap between academic learning and the business world.
